Completed in early 2013, CTG’s state-of-the-art Composite Centre of Excellence in Banbury (Oxfordshire, UK) has been developed to support rapid business growth, and is an impressive 137,000 square foot.
The facility build was approached with an environmental and sustainable focus and achieved an impressive 99% recycle rate. It has united CTG’s six sites into one location and gives CTG an overall footprint increase of more than 90%. The move enables CTG to manufacture advanced composite products and systems in volume quantities more effectively across a range of high technology industries.
The layout was designed using lean principles which focus on material flow and flexibility. Layout of the production area has been planned using value stream envelopes; enabling wasted space to be lowered by more than 30% and linkage and flow improved by 50% in comparison to the old sites. Each value stream runs as an independent system; and benefits from a ‘plug and play’ concept; which enables equipment to be introduced or moved with ease to the production line. The factory is very open and there is a clear line of sight which links easily with the offices to promote a culture of one united workforce.
Amenities include dedicated production lines, a technical library, high-tech smart boards, a gymnasium and flexible meeting spaces.
The building has also recently been fitted with UK's biggest community-owned solar roof.
